Art for me is sensory. There is a Kabbalistic belief that wisdom is in the hands and in the feet. By using the pads of my fingers, and my wrists and arms, I use my whole body to translate images from my imagination to visual concepts others can enjoy. I choose to work in pastel and natural pigments—it is primal stuff and it reminds me of India where my work was born. The images and colors come from my childhood in India and my youth in Israel as well as my travels to eighty countries around the world. My philosophy and knowledge of history come from my Hebrew Jewish tradition, my foundation in Kabbalah, as well as from my contacts with mysticism and religious practices of India and Christiantiy. I represent in my person the unit of East and West. I am a self-taught artist—and when I was inspired drew on my inner visions which appear to me as colors and forms. — BenTzion |
